Pioneer AVIC-F500BT Navigation system at an incredible price $199!

I was searching for feature rich navigation system for quite some time. I had a few specific functions I was looking for and it just happens that most of the common systems avaliable for sale are lacking one or more of these features. Here is the list of what I want:

1) Good navigation - sounds trivial but a lot of the lower end units have very small databases of points of interest, outdated maps, poorly designed interface.

2) Factory radio integration - FM transmitters re finiky, unreliable and do not mute the sounds of your stereo system when navigation prompts sound.

3) BlueTooth - very important feature, esecially here in California where a first time ticket for cell phone use while operating a vehicle is $130. But the system also must be able to sync the contacts from the phone, so the driver doesn't have to fiddle with the phone in order to call someone.

4) Rear view camera - I drive a mid-size SUV with rather limited rear view. It would really help during parking on manuvering in tight situations to see how close you can backup and if there is anything behind the car.

5) Expandibility - features such as iPod integration, ability to read USB flash memory, SD memory cards, play audio, video, accept XM radio, MSN Direct, traffic updates, etc.

And here what the Avic-F500BT has as defined the list above:

1) iGo navigation mosftware - it is very common, has good maps, 3D and 2D views, large POI database, works quite fast, highly customizable, and more

2) F500BT can be integrated into any car's existing stereo system with the use of additional Pioneer amp ND-G500. It will mute the sounds from car's stereo in order to provide voice navigation prompts, to make and receive calls and will automatically resume playing music or playing radio once the prompt or phone call ends.

3) BlueTooth in this sytem is based on Parrot and allows for address book sync, caller ID, accepting/rejecting/making calls. So this is quite well covered.

4) This navigation has two video inputs - one is a dedicated rear-view camera input through harness that comes with the unit and the second one is through a mini-jack plug that is common in A/V world. It can be used to plug-in an iPod to play videos from it, plugin a DVD player or other video source (such as front facing camera if one wishes to).

5) As mentioned already - one can plug-in an iPod with full controls and charging fromt he Pioneer Avic-F500BT. It also comes with MSN Direct receiver and a trial period for the service where you can check on movie times, gas prices, traffic conditions and weather. It can read MP3, WMA and Apple's iTunes music format as well as AVI video streams. To expand the storage or provide this content you can plug-in a USB flash memory stick or an SD card.

Now the best part of all - this system is avaliable from www.6ave.com (a large electronics retailer on East Coast) for an incredible price of $199! If you google 6ave.com and F500BT you will find coupon code to drop the price from $248 to $199. At this price - this navi is a steal. It has larger screen, more features, better controls, voice operation, great expandability and more bang for your buck than any Garmin, TomTom or other navigation system in this price range. It just does more for less and does it with style. And as a bonus - you can customize the look of most screens (including navigation map data) shown on the unit with your picks of pictures, data displayed, voices and splash screen.

Now the hard part - installing all of this in my 2008 Toyota Highlander. I'm sure it will be a fun project as I have never done anything like this and will probably learn a whole lot about my new car and its wiring.

The wire connpections in my avalon are not compatable with my avalon connections and I have no experience with this sort of stuff.

Hi,

I've purchased a Parrot Bluetooth Adapter for my car. It has the same plugs as the Pioneer Navi on one end and same as Toyota needs on the other. It plugs in right in between the car and navi. This way you don't need to splice any wires.

Prices for them range from $20 to $60. Look for one on e-bay or make a search in google for BT1761 and you will find a ton of them. Just make sure it will work with your car.

Good luck!
